A schoolgirl in the US has been arrested after refusing to stop sending text messages in class.

The 14-year-old from Wisconsin, who was not named, was confronted by a school security guard after ignoring her maths teacher's requests to stop.

According to the police report, the student denied having a phone but two of her classmates said she did.

Not only was she arrested last Wednesday and forced to appear in court, the student ended up with $300 bail and was suspended from school for a week.

After her suspension, the teen was twice caught sneaking back into school, earning her two trespassing tickets.

The girl's father told reporters in the US school officials made the right call.

"They gave her a few chances but for some reason she didn't abide by that," he said.

"They were more than fair.

"It's very disturbing and upsetting for me."
