Man shot dead by police in NSW's central west during 'confrontation'

A man has been shot dead by police in New South Wales' central west following a confrontation.

Police were called to View Street in Kelso, near Bathurst, about 7pm on Wednesday after concerns were raised about the male occupant.

After the officers arrived the man, who is yet to be identified, was shot.

Police attempted to resuscitate the man, but he died a short time later.

In a statement, NSW Police said: "A critical incident team from the Homicide Squad will now investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident.

"That investigation will be subject to independent review and all information will be provided to the Coroner."
