Explosives hidden in Barbie doll in Sydney 'plane terror plot'
It has been revealed that explosives were hidden inside a large Barbie doll as part of an alleged plot to blow up a plane flying out of Sydney.
Lebanese officials say they helped Australian authorities monitor the brothers accused of planning the attack for more than a year.
Lebanon's interior minister Nohad Machnouk claims two bombs were hidden in luggage - one in a meat grinder, and the other in the Barbie doll, but weight restrictions stopped the explosives from making it on board.
Khaled Khayat, 49, from Lakemba and Mahmoud Khayat, 32, of Punchbowl, have each been charged with two counts of acting in preparation for, or planning, a terrorist act.
Asked whether the Sydney-based operation would have been successful if the luggage hadn't exceeded the weight limit, Mr Machnouk replied: "Probably, yes."
