Gurney with body found lying in middle of traffic

WARNING DISTRESSING CONTENT: Two gurneys, including one carrying a deceased person, fell out the back of a coroner’s van and into traffic.

A horrified driver spotted the gurneys at an intersection in Olympia, in the US state Washington.

“I am at a stoplight and there’s a f****** body on a gurney that is just sitting here,” the driver says in dashcam video.

“There’s no ambulance around anywhere, there’s nothing.”

The van was on its way back to the Thurston County Coroner’s Office just before 12.30pm Monday after responding to a home death, according to the Olympian.

Olympia Police lieutenant Paul Lower confirmed two gurneys fell out of the van at the intersection of Martin Way East and Phoenix Street Southeast.

The gurney holding the deceased person stopped at the intersection while the second one was found in a nearby parking lot.

Lt Lower said two officers were already in the area and were able to quickly reroute traffic.

Thurston County Coroner Gary Warnock said an investigation is underway to determine if the incident was caused by an operating error or mechanical failure.

The family of the deceased person was also notified and the body received no trauma.
