Kawa Sweeney found unconscious in Bali pool has life support switched off

The family of Kawa Sweeney, who was found unconscious in a Bali pool, have made the tragic decision to turn off her life support.

Kawa's family say the little girl has lost her battle and they have spent the day at hospital saying their goodbyes.

The girl was pulled from the water at Uluwatu Surf Villas on Sunday morning.

She was flown to Perth on Monday but tests revealed she had suffered severe brain damage.

The family released a statement on Thursday afternoon.

“Unfortunately, in spite of all the hopes and prayers Kawa has lost her battle. Family are saying goodbye today,” the statement said.

“We would like to thank everyone who has gone above and beyond in all of this.

“Thank you to everyone who helped us in Bali, the medivac team, the doctors and the incredible nurses at Princess Margaret Hospital in the PICU who have been with us 24/7 since arriving in Perth.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported us with their thoughts, prayers, love and donations.

“We are overwhelmed with your generosity and are grateful for all that you have given us in this difficult time.”

Family and friends have flown into Perth from around the country in the past few days to say their goodbyes to Kawa.

On Wednesday family spokesperson Pearl Tan said the family were in "disbelief".

“We’re reminiscing about how feisty she was and what an awesome kid she was and what a bright spark she was,” Ms Tan said.
