Family's heartbreaking note to teen, 19, killed trying to swerve around duck

The grieving family of a Tamworth teenager has penned a heart-wrenching tribute after she was killed in a horrific crash as she attempted to avoid a duck.

Police believe Shonae McCabe swerved into a tree while trying to avoid the bird on Werris Creek Road on Sunday morning.

Witnesses rushed to help the 19-year-old but she died at the scene.

Her devastated family has now written a touching tribute to the "kind-hearted little girl” as they struggle to come to terms with her death.

"Well today is a very sad day for our family and the world,” her uncle Dave Seabourne wrote in a Facebook tribute.

"Words cannot describe how heartbroken we all are.

"You were just such a beautiful, kind-hearted little girl who's smile would light up a room , a credit to your mum, and I'm sure nothing had changed as a young lady.

"I'm so saddened to know that my baby's will never have the pleasure and opportunity of meeting you. All we can do is tell them how amazing you were. We loved you so much.”

More than $1500 was raised within two hours of a GoFundMe page emerging online, hoping to help cover the funeral costs for Shonae's grieving family.

"We are trying to raise money to help support her family at this sad time,” page creator Krystal Wall wrote.

"All donations will be given to Shonae's mother Vanessa for help with funeral cost and other expenses.

"May you Rest in Paradise beautiful Angel.”

Quirindi Football Club also paid tribute to the much "valued and loved member” on Sunday.

"It is with a profound sense of grief that Quirindi Football Club mourns the death of former player Shonae McCabe,” they wrote on Facebook.

"Shonae was a valued and loved member of our club who will be deeply missed. Quirindi Football Club extends our condolences to Shonae's family and friends during this extremely sad time.”
