WATCH: Germany's eye-rolling Merkel brushes off Vladimir Putin

German chancellor Angela Merkel has appeared to roll her eyes in frustration while making small talk with Vladmir Putin.

Footage from the G20 summit in Hamburg on Friday shows Ms Merkel stopped speaking with the Russian President who made a number of hand gestures during their chat.

After listening to the leader for a few moments, Ms Merkel appeared to turn her face away to roll her eyes.

Ms Merkel will give the summit's final statement on Saturday afternoon local time and it is understood the speech will reflect strong support for the Paris climate change agreement.

It is understood the summit's final statement, to be delivered by German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Saturday afternoon local time (11pm AEST), will reflect strong support for the Paris climate agreement and note Mr Trump's decision to pull out.

The leaders enjoyed a performance of Beethoven's ninth symphony at Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie concert hall on Friday night.

The performance was followed by a dinner at which Melania Trump sat next to Mr Putin, who had a much-watched first meeting with Donald Trump on Friday.

Extra police are being brought in to handle what is expected to be protest rallies involving 100,000 activists, some of whom have been setting fire to cars and looting stores across Hamburg.
