Police search for gunman after 22-year-old's death in dramatic attack

Police are searching for a gunman after a dramatic attack, which left a 22-year-old man dead, and a second wounded on the NSW Central Coast.

A number of Wyong streets remained cordoned off on Monday night as police interviewed witnesses and searched for evidence into the death of father-of-two Jesse Thompson.

Mr Thompson and a friend were in a silver four-wheel-drive and it’s alleged two men in another car were chasing them through Wyong at about 12.30pm.

"Some sort of altercation took place between the two parties in those two vehicles,” acting superintendent David Waddell said.

“Four guys were hanging out of the four-wheel-drive screaming and they dragged the body out,” he said.

“They dumped him on the grass and they were screaming and throwing themselves around.”

Paramedics worked on Mr Thompson for almost an hour but couldn’t save him.

The 22-year-old died in a small carpark on the corner of Warner Avenue and Ithome Street.

Police believe he was shot 600 metres away on corner of Byron Street and Panonia Road.

Friends of Mr Thompson told Fairfax Media he was a popular man around the area.

"He was amazing, he was such a great father, son, brother, cousin, uncle," Brittney Tate said.

"He was so loved by many. He was always smiling."

She said it wasn't the first time tragedy had hit Mr Thompson's family.

His mother reportedly lost another son to suicide a few years ago and lost her husband before that.

Anyone who saw a white four-wheel-drive or with any information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
