Car crash victim reunited with the firefighter who saved him

Elliott Biggs nearly died in a car crash earlier this year and after a long road to recovery wanted to thank those who saved him.

It's rare that firefighters hear what happens to those they have pulled out of wreckages, let alone actually see them again.

The accident that Elliott was in was so devastating that first responders feared the man inside the crushed car must be deceased.

Instead, they found a man still clinging to life.

Elliott Biggs was hospitalised for more than a month, spending five of those days unconscious.

It was an uphill battle to recover, but today Elliott wanted to thank the people who saved his life.

His mother had been at work when the dreaded call came in.

"It's pure terror, that's how I would describe it," she said.

"I was absolutely terrified, will my son live or will he die?"

Two months on, however, he had almost made a full recovery.

"It's very good for our people to see the end results of an incident they have attended," Superintendent Lance Duncan said.

The other driver in the accident was not seriously injured and the cause is still being investigated by police.

Elliott says he now wants to complete his police application, do his testing and interviews, and join the force - helping those who helped save him.
