WATCH: Nude vandals target Melbourne train in broad daylight

A duo of naked men have been caught on video appearing to spray-paint graffiti on a Melbourne train in broad daylight, moments before it departed from the platform.

The nude pair can be seen beside the railway lines, wearing nothing but shoes and masks in the middle of the afternoon on Friday.

With spray cans in their hands, the cheeky vandals painted "obscene symbols" on the train, according to 3AW listener Mike.

He was with his wife Belinda, who recorded the action about 3.30pm while waiting for a train at Gardenvale station, at Brighton, in Melbourne's south-east.

“They wrote quite explicit language and drawings, as you could imagine, and then did little Toyota jumps and the train took off and they ran back into the bushes,” Belinda told radio host Tom Elliott.

The vandals were slammed for their behaviour, with Metro Trains calling it "extremely dangerous" to be on the tracks and "disappointing" to see the trains vandalised.

“We share community concern about graffiti and spend more than $10 million on the issue every year. This is money that could be better spent improving the network," Metro said in a statement.

“The railway is only dangerous for those that choose to take these types of risks, and it is very concerning to see these people behaving so recklessly as they risk their lives or serious injury.

“We ask our customers if they witness this type of irresponsible behaviour to call Triple-0 or press the emergency button on train carriages or on platforms."

The spokesperson said unlawful and unsafe behaviour was investigated by authorised officers and the security and surveillance team who work closely with police, reviewing CCTV cameras at all stations and train carriages across the network.
