'When it's gone, it's gone': Outrage over sale sticker on Madeleine McCann book

A sale sticker slapped on a book about missing Madeleine McCann has sparked outrage online because of the slogan it uses - "When it's gone, it's gone".

The book, by investigative journalist Danny Collins, was released to mark the 10-year anniversary of her disappearance.

Discount store in the UK, The Works, has since marked down the price of the book, offering 60 per cent off, along with the message, which has since been deemed inappropriate by some who found it.

One shopper who spotted the gaffe at the store wrote on Twitter: “Of all the price sticker choices”.

Her photo was retweeted more than 1,300 times sparking backlash from social media users.

A spokesperson for The Works told Metro.co.uk this is an isolated occurrence.

"We are truly sorry for any upset that this has caused and apologise unreservedly for the error," the spokesperson said.

"We believe this is an isolated occurrence but have taken immediate action to ensure that no other stores feature similar stickers on this book."
