Siege ends after three stabbed in early morning rampage

A siege in Melbourne's south-east has ended after three people were believed to have been stabbed in an early morning rampage.

Seven News chopper footage shows heavily armed police surrounding then storming a Doveton home just before 8am.

It is believed three people suffered significant stab wounds after the alleged offender attacked three people at a home at Lacebark Avenue, about 6.30am.

He then reportedly took one of the victim's hostage and moved to a second neighbouring home occupied by at least two other adults and up to six children, where the siege situation unfolded.

Police surrounded the the knifeman at Waratah Avenue who was threatening self-harm. He was tasered, before being taken into custody on a stretcher, police said.

He has been taken to hospital for assessment before being interviewed.

A male victim has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and two women have also been transported with serious injuries.

The family of eight reportedly snuck out the backdoor of the second home and climbed over the back fence to safety before police went in to apprehend the alleged knifeman.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined but all parties are believed to be known to each other, police said.
