‘Smiling' child stabs Brisbane restaurant worker in back

A Brisbane restaurant worker has been left stunned and lucky to be alive after he was "stabbed in the back", by "a smiling child".

Police arrested a 12-year-old boy not far from the south side restaurant.

Doctors told his alleged victim, if the military style blade had sunk any deeper, he could have died.

When the attack occurred Matt Yang was simply doing his job.

The worker was standing out the front of the restaurant taking a phone order from a customer around 8.30pm last night when he was attacked.

“I think it was a stone or something that hit me,” Matt told 7 News.

Sadly however, it was far worse.

A 28 centimetre knife was driven into his back by a 12-year-old boy.

“It's a military knife, it's not a knife we can see from the store, it's a military knife, and then he just go like this (acts out) to put in his back, and it's very deep,” Grey Wang, the owner of the store told 7 News.

Matt's boss Grey says the child was a total stranger who disturbingly, smiled at his innocent victim and told him to "watch his back" before running away.

“The chef which is also working in here, pulled the knife out of his back, and then all the blood comes out and we called the ambulance and police,” he continued.

“I couldn't believe even now, it's a kid you know, hit me, attacked me,” Matt said.

Police arrived within minutes, arresting the boy nearby.

Matt arrived in Australia six months ago to study and he believed it would be safe.

“Maybe two inch deeper, it would hurt in the heart, and everything come too late,” Grey said.

“I don't know how I describe, but I'm lucky,” the victim said.

The 12-year-old is currently in police custody.

He is set to face the children’s court on Monday.
