Man in custody after alleged carjacking and crash rampage across Sydney

A man is under police guard in hospital after a series of carjackings and crashes across Sydney.

Police believe 30-year-old Jason Nasar stole a ride share car at Roselands on Sunday afernoon and drove off, crashing into three cars.

He then sped off down the road and crashed again, with both cars catching fire, officers said.

Police allege he then forced a driver to take him to Sydney airport where he was arrested by police.

A total of six cars were damaged during the rampage, which lasted 20 minutes.

One of the cars was removed from the roadway overnight.

Nasar was taken to St George Hospital after he was arrested at the airport.

He will have a mental health assessment before police can make any charges.

Witnesses said they couldn't believe what they were seeing.

John Tsiaparas said Nasar was jumping from car to car trying to run away from the accident.

"He eventually got into a golden 4WD and half hanging out of the car, the 4WD's taken off," Mr Tsiaparas said.
