Thieves steal 130 guns during daring Perth store heist
Daring thieves used a saw to cut through brick walls to steal 130 guns from a Perth store during an almost five-hour raid.
Police say they are desperate to recover the firearms because they fear it’s only a “matter of time before something disastrous happens”.
The thieves broke into the Barry & Sons gun store in Beckenham on March 11 and stole 130 weapons, including semi automatics and revolvers.
“It’s a well-organised burglary,” detective senior sergeant Darren Hart said,
“The only reason you would possess an illicit handgun is if you want to threaten, injure or kill somebody.
“There’s no good reason for someone to have an illicit handgun.”
The thieves cut through a wire fence, then used to the same tools to cut through the tin building and managed to avoid laser beam detectors that would trigger the alarm.
They even used temporary fencing to block off a road and stall, in case the police showed up.
The fugitives loaded the weapons into what police believe is a current model Holden GTS Commodore at the rear of the shop.
Once inside the Beckenham store, the thieves used a saw to cut through concrete blocks, which form the wall of the strong room – which is where the weapons were kept.
“The guns are used for nothing good and it’s only a matter of time before something disastrous happens,” snr sgt Hart said.
