Hoon caught on camera tearing through Melbourne neighbourhood
Police are trying to identify a driver who was caught on camera hooning in a suburban Melbourne street before setting the vehicle on fire.
Residents in the Truganina estate say they were woken to the sound of burnouts, and described the driver as a “bloody idiot”.
“He was definitely smoking up the tyres and yeah he was in a big hurry,” resident Ian Bonnet said.
“He’s just doing burnout, I thought ‘you bloody idiot, you’ve got no brains’,” resident Raymond Sang added.
Vision of driver shows the Holden Commodore cross onto the wrong side of the road, before doing a U-turn on a front lawn.
“My son woke me up at 7am telling me he heard thunder,” resident Fatima Elhawli said.
“We realised it wasn’t thunder, it must’ve been a burnout.”
The hooning came to an end when the driver tried to accelerate up a steep embankment and became wedged on a rock.
The vehicle was then set alight as the driver fled the scene.
According to police, the vehicle is registered to a home in the area and had not been reported as stolen.
