'What an honour!': Hanson scores tickets to Trump's big day

Pauline Hanson, the leader of Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party, has taken to Twitter to announce she has scored tickets to US President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration next week.

"Would you believe it? I have been gifted tickets to the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony of @realDonaldTrump - What an honour!" she wrote.

However, it seems that Hanson will be unable to make the trip, telling news.com.au: “I thought about it for a minute, it would be a fantastic opportunity, but I’ve got too much happening in Australia."

News of Senator Hanson's tickets comes as reports from US suggest many of Mr Trump's fellow US lawmakers will not be making the trip to Washington for the 20 January event.

At least 24 lawmakers from the Democrats have declared their intention to boycott the event in the wake of the President-elect's recent spat with civil rights icon, Congressman John Lewis.

Online petitions are calling for all Democrats to shun the inauguration.
