Blast near Cairo's Coptic cathedral kills at least 22

An explosion on Sunday near Cairo’s Coptic cathedral has killed 22 people and injured 10, according to reports.

The explosion occurred at around 10:00am local time.

It's understood some injured in the blast have been taken to hospital to be treated.

There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

According to various local media Cairo's security chief, Khalid Abdel Aal, arrived to inspect the scene.

The cause of the blast was not immediately clear according to reports.

Earlier in the week two roadside bombs, one in Cairo and one north of the capital, killed six policemen and wounded six others.

The blast also came after twin attacks in Istanbul, Turkey, killed 38 people.
