Police praise SA schoolies, despite three arrests

South Australian police have praised the overall behaviour of this year’s schoolie celebrations, with just three arrests on the final night of partying.

Police said there were fewer arrests and drug seizures than previous years and fewer Toolies to contend with at Victor Harbour.

For the first time in the event’s history, there were no arrests on Saturday night.

“The scorecard for the class of 2016 is an ‘A’,” inspector Mark Walker-Roberts said.

“We sent out strong messages this year, all of us and I’d like to congratulate them.”

Despite the praise, 70 expiration notices were issued, mainly for the teens breaching the dry zone restrictions in the Victor CBD.

Seven News also obtained footage of a Year 12 student’s arrest, where a female officer was forced to hold down the teen’s head as security and other officer assist.

Many of the 5000-strong crowd wrapped up the celebrations on Monday morning, boarding buses for the ride back to Adelaide.

“(It’s) a really good weekend,” one schoolie said.

“Definitely a good way to celebrate the end of year 12.”
