Victim's long wait ends 'armed robber' charged 22 years after $2.4m heist
The son of an Armaguard driver who was terrorised during the 1994 road gang robbery has spoken of his relief that an arrest has been made.
Jim Brewer said the heist, that took place more than two-decades ago, destroyed his father and their family.
His father Bob was behind the wheel of the Armaguard van when it was held up by a gang dressed as road workers in Richmond.
They handcuffed him and stole $2.4 million during the robbery that lasted just eight minutes, but caused a lifelong heartache.
“On Christmas day when they had actually made that phone call threatening death for us kids ad also for mum,” Jim Brewer told 7 News
“These people need to be caught don’t they? Yeah they do. They need to be caught and held accountable because it’s not fair, we’re just normal hardworking people,” he added in regards to those who are still at large.
Bob was brave enough to return to work, until the death threats came a few months later.
Once considered the perfect crime, Pasquale Lanciana was yesterday officially charged over the infamous robbery.
More than two decades on, it’s now starting to unravel.
“It’s the start of everything falling over for them, 22 years is a long long time and no-one can keep quiet for that amount of time,” Mr Brewer added.
“Lanciana is allegedly just one of five men who carried out the grand heist, both police and Mr Brewer hope this breakthrough will lead to all of those involved facing long-awaited justice.”
No matter how long until the net arrest, Jim said the wait will be worth it.
