Amirah Droudis found guilty of murdering Lindt Cafe gunman's ex-partner

The former partner of Sydney siege gunman Man Haron Monis has been found guilty of murdering his ex-wife.

Amirah Droudis, 37, stabbed the woman 18 times, doused her in petrol and set her body alight at a unit block in Werrington in Sydney’s west on April 21, 2013, the court heard.

Droudis pled not guilty to the murder charge.

It was alleged Man Monis plotted the murder after a family dispute with his former partner.

It was further alleged he “brainwashed” Droudis.

Monis had allegedly faked a car crash in Penrith on the day of the murder to provide himself with an alibi.

A police recording filmed at a Sydney hospital showed him being told by police that his ex-wife had died.

The footage was shown in the NSW Supreme Court earlier this year.

"Man, I’ll inform you that your former partner is dead,” a detective told Monis.

“What?" he replies.

Police didn’t tell Monis that his ex-partner had been stabbed 18 times and set alight.

“I’m afraid she’s passed away. She died earlier this afternoon,” they said.

“Maybe someone else, maybe someone else,” Monis replied.

“I’m afraid not,” the officer informed him.

“That’s not possible, such a thing. It’s someone else.”

The Crown claimed Monis convinced Droudis, who was "besotted" with him, to kill the woman, after trying and failing to hire Rebels bikies to carry out the crime.

On Thursday Droudis was convicted of the brutal murder following a judge-alone trial in the NSW Supreme Court.

In handing down his verdict, Justice Peter Johnson said he was satisfied Monis had planned the murder and that it was carried out by Droudis.
