Man shot dead in Sydney's west, killer flees the scene

Police are hunting a gunman who shot dead a man outside a home in Sydney's west on Friday night.

Neighbours say they heard gunshots at the Brisbane Street scene in St Marys around 7.20pm and found the injured man outside the home.

"There were about 10 gunshots and a guy at the shops said there was a guy on the ground and a girl screaming her head off," one witness said.

"I heard the gunshots and everything.

"I heard about five (shots) and then a pause and then five or six more."

Paramedics treated the man at the scene, but he died a short time later.

The man, who is believed to be aged in his early 30s, has not yet been formally identified.

Witnesses say an "unknown vehicle" was seen leaving the scene before police locked the area down.

Police are yet to find the gunman responsible with detectives from St Marys Local Area Command and State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad investigating.

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
