Queensland family are one in 2.7 million

A Queensland couple have defied the odds and given birth to a baby girl on the same birth date as both her parents.

Caitlin and Tom Perkins welcomed daughter Lucy on the couple’s shared 30th birthday, with all three now born on August 16.

“Everyone spent the whole pregnancy teasing us about how we were going to all have the same birthday and you just think ‘nah, surely it can’t happen’,” Mrs Perkins said.

“Evidently it can!”

The odds of two parents sharing a birth date with their child is one in 130,000, but those odds blow out to one in 2.7 million when the parents share the same birth date and birth year.

Little Lucy arrived a week early at Greenslopes Private Hospital to share the birth date with her parents, in what’s been described as an incredible twist of fate.

While the couple’s birthday celebrations were put on hold, the new parents say they are happy to have Lucy, who is the best gift of all.
