NRL player Semi Radradra charged over allegations he 'kicked heavily pregnant partner'
NRL player Semi Radradra has been charged over alleged domestic violence offences and served with an apprehended violence order, upon his arrest on his return to Australia.
The Parramatta winger arrived back in Sydney Airport on Thursday night, following allegations he kicked his former partner, Perina Ting, in the stomach while she was heavily pregnant.
Ms Ting made a complaint to police about alleged offences that occurred between 2014 and 2015.
She filed a video report with police, alleging she had been assaulted a number of times over an eight month period.
On Friday morning, NSW Police confirmed they had charged a 24-year-old man “following investigations into reports of domestic violence”.
Ms Ting alleged Radradra kicked her in the stomach while she was nine months pregnant with the couple’s daughter in 2014.
Baby Luisa was born a few weeks later.
Two other alleged incidents it is alleged Radradra punched Ms Ting and pushed her against a wall.
The couple split in February 2016.
Radradra was arrested after he disembarked his flight from Fiji about 10.30pm on Thursday night.
He was reportedly taken to Mascot Police Station where he was questioned in relation to three allegations of domestic violence.
"As a result of investigations the man was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm domestic violence and two counts of common assault domestic violence,” police said in a statement.
“The man was also served with an apprehended violence order.”
Radradra was given conditional bail and will appear in Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday July 5.
Rio Olympic hopeful Jarryd Hayne also arrived back in Australia on the same flight as Radradra on Thursday.
There has been confusion about Radradra’s playing future with reports the flyer was seeking a release from his NRL contract to play in France.
Hayne told reporters he had no doubt his friend would continue with the Parramatta Eels.
“He'll definitely stay at Parramatta. He's back here now, so he's obviously back at Parra and back playing. I spoke to him and, you know, from all accounts, you know, he's come back here and playing on the weekend.”
Radradra is set to play against the Sharks on Saturday after he avoided returning to Australia from Fiji when the club granted him leave to return to his homeland.
On Friday the Eels confirmed they had been made aware of charges laid against Radradra.
"This is a serious matter and the club is treating it as such," Parramatta Eels director Geoff Gerard said.
"In accordance with our club's values, Semi will be afforded the presumption of innocence, and we will continue to provide him and his family with all the support and welfare services we have available.”
"The club will work closely with the relevant authorities and be open with the NRL Integrity Unit throughout this process."
Mr Gerard said the club remained committed to promoting education, counselling and support around the issue of family violence.
