'Loud bang' as transformer blows at Melbourne power plant
Melbourne's Metropolitan Fire Brigade is on the scene of an explosion at a Richmond power plant.
Crews were called to Mary St Richmond, near Barkly Avenue around 4.30pm on Tuesday as a transformer blew and remains burning.
Firies are waiting for power to be isolated.
Passers-by reported hearing a loud bang as the explosion happened.
The power surge is causing major traffic delays to the Alamein/Belgrave/Lilydale/Glen Waverley outbound train services through Richmond and Burnley.
