Peta Credlin signs federal election TV deal with Sky News

Tony Abbott's controversial former chief of staff Peta Credlin has secured an on-air role as a Sky News political commentator.

After spending 16 years in the world of politics, she will soon be working on the other side of the camera for an expected double dissolution federal election on July 2.

Ms Credlin told News Corp that she hoped "to help ordinary Australians better understand" their choices at the polling booth and to add some insider value to their political team.

Sky CEO Angelo Frangopoulos confirmed Ms Credlin's appointment as a political commentator.

"We welcome Peta to our unrivalled coverage of Election 2016," he said.

Ms Credlin is one of the most talked about women in politics and recently came under fire after an explosive tell-all book revealed dark secrets behind Australia’s political scene.

Journalist Niki Savva’s book, The Road to Ruin, hinted at an affair between Ms Credlin and her boss, Mr Abbott.

Ms Credlin was quick to slam the claims, labelling them "completely false, utterly untrue, unfounded and wrong".

As part of the panel for The Australian Women’s Weekly’s annual Women of the Future awards, she spoke candidly about the trials of being a woman in parliament.

“If I was a guy, I wouldn’t be bossy, I would be strong. I wouldn’t be a micromanager, I’d be across my brief.

“If I wasn’t strong, determined, controlling, and got them into government from opposition, then I would be weak and not up to it and should have to go.”
