Man to face court over alleged Melbourne freeway chase and thefts

A man is set to face court this morning after allegedly causing chaos with a stolen van on a busy Melbourne freeway on Sunday.

Victorian police noticed the white Hyundai van on Tooradin Avenue, Broadmeadows shortly after 11am.

A police helicopter was also called in to follow the vehicle as it entered the Tullamarine Freeway, heading towards Melbourne.

Police approached the van when it became caught in heavy traffic on the freeway between Brunswick Road and Flemington Road.

The driver allegedly rammed through traffic when police were forced to deploy deflation devices.

Police found property allegedly stolen during a recent burglary spree inside the van.

The 24-year-old man from Broadmeadows was arrested and charged.

He will appear in Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court today charged with 12 counts of reckless conduct endangering serious injury, four counts of evading police, four counts of unlicensed driving, two counts of burglary, two counts of theft and theft of motor vehicle.
