Tara Brown loses her fight for life after heartbreaking attack

A woman who was allegedly violently beaten by her former partner while trapped in her crashed car on the Gold Coast has lost her fight for life in hospital.

The family of Tara Brown, 24, made the heartbreaking decision to turn off her life support after she suffered critical head injuries in the incident on Tuesday morning.

Police have since confirmed the young mother approached police for advice about breaking up with her bikie boyfriend last Thursday.

She showed police worrying text messages on her mobile phone but police told her to seek help elsewhere.

“There was nothing they (the police) could do about it,” a friend said.

Police now say they will be investigating that response.

“The appropriateness of the police response... has been reported to the Queensland Police Service Ethical Standards Command and is currently being investigated by a senior officer,” an official statement said.

Cameras recorded for a chilling three and a half minutes the young mother fleeing for her life as she is chased by a man in a Jeep - believed to be her ex boyfriend.

After she crashes down an embankment and into a house the Jeep stops in the middle of the street, then this terrifying moment, as he runs back towards the wreckage.

Not to help but to attack again.

As neighbours scream for help, behind the trees the former bikie is allegedly bashing his high school sweetheart in the head with the cast iron cover of a fire hydrant.

Witnesses say the alleged attacker then bashed the young mother as she lay trapped in her vehicle.

"My friend was the one pulling the man off the woman, he was bashing her," a bystander told the Gold Coast Bulletin newspaper.

"The man was down there and had his knee on her chest, her legs were sticking out of the car but the rest of her was trapped."

When witnesses drag him off her, the allleged attacker makes a desperate getaway - hijacking a council worker's car.

His charges have now been upgraded to murder.

“It’s obviously a ferocious attack – it’s very sad to see this level of domestic violence,” Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Procter told local media.

"I've been in the police for 30 plus years and I still find it quite shocking."

LNP wants tough stance after Queensland bashing

Opposition leader Lawrence Springborg has called on the Queensland government to stand by the state's strict anti-bikie laws after a horrific domestic violence attack on the Gold Coast.

Liberal National Party leader Mr Springborg said he would leave the legal system to deal with the case but called on the government "to stand up and defend the current laws" rather than "throw them out and roll out the red carpet to lawlessness".

"The people of Queensland are sick and tired of criminal activity from people who are involved in lawless organisations," he said.

The Queensland government is reviewing the Vicious Lawless Association Disestablishment (VLAD) legislation in line with a pre-election commitment.

When asked whether cases like the shocking road rage incident would be considered in the review, the premier said it was no time to be playing politics.

"This is a tragic domestic violence incident," she said.

"All those matters will be investigated and I'm sure that the man involved will face the full consequences of the law."
