Woman fined, disqualified after drink-driving with kids

A Dardanup woman has blamed her poor judgement for drink-driving with children in the car.

Demelza Alice Victoria Webb, 31, pleaded guilty in Bunbury Magistrate’s Court this morning to charges of driving with a blood alcohol level of .148 on June 14.

Police charged Ms Webb after stopping her at 5.20pm for a random breath test on Picton Road, East Bunbury.

The court was told Ms Webb had three children in the car between the ages of one and 11 – including a child which was not hers.

Her lawyer, Jeanette de Klerk, told the court the mother had no previous criminal records, her “judgement wasn’t there” and she was very upset that she committed the crime.

Magistrate Elizabeth Hamilton said the alcohol level was an extremely high reading and Ms Webb was fortunate an accident did not occur.

She imposed a $750 fine, court costs of $79 and a nine month licence disqualification.
