Fatal assault accused granted bail

A man accused of fatally assaulting a father-of-two after an all-night party in Seville Grove has been granted bail.

Christopher Malcolm Carkeek, 36, was allegedly involved in a fight with Brian Burgess after the truck driver confronted partygoers about loud music on May 31.

Mr Burgess lost consciousness in the driveway of a Brown Crescent home and could not be revived.

Mr Carkeek was granted bail when he appeared in Perth Magistrate's Court this morning by videolink from Hakea Prison.

The court was told the fly-in, fly-out worker does not have a substantial criminal record.

Mr Carkeek has also been charged with the unlawful assault of a woman he was in a relationship with.

Neighbours called police to complain about noise coming from the party early on the Sunday.

It is understood officers attended and told the host to turn down the music before being called to the street again about 7.40am when the alleged assault occurred.

Mr Careek will appear in court again on June 29.
