Summit to focus on ice

A summit examining the impact of the drug ice on the community will be held in Geraldton on Wednesday.

Hosted by the Federal Member for Durack Melissa Price, the summit will be attended by Assistant Health Minister Fiona Nash and community stakeholders such as front-line police, health officials and providers of rehabilitation services. Ms Price said everyone was invited to attend, including people who had been personally affected by ice.

“As with the crime forum I held in Geraldton last year, I want to listen to stakeholders and let the community have its say and share concerns about ice and its impacts,” she said.

“Through the National Ice Taskforce, set up by the Prime Minister in April, this government is committed to addressing the issue. I’m also committed to working hard to see use of the drug decrease in Durack and all over Australia.

“The National Ice Taskforce is part of a national action strategy to be developed by Federal, State and Territory governments to tackle the growing scourge of ice.”

Ms Price said the ice summit would play a vital role in shaping the report to be given to the Prime Minister for consideration when the Coalition of Australian Governments met at the end of the year.

The summit will be held at the POSH function centre on Wednesday between 11.30am and 1.30 pm.

People wanting to attend must book through Ms Price’s Geraldton electorate office on 9964 2195 or email melissa.price.mp@aph.gov.au
