Aspiring restaurateurs will soon have the chance to learn the tricks of the trade, as Rustico Tapas Bar prepares to launch its inaugural school-based trainee program.

Owner Vanessa Phillipson said eight Year 10 and 11 students from across the greater Rockingham area would be afforded the chance to learn front of house skills, as part of the earn as you learn initiative.

Ms Phillipson said the popular eatery already employed three apprentice chefs - one in each year of a three-year apprenticeship - and looked forward to expanding training experiences to students.

She said students would be invited to work eight hours a week for between 12 and 18 months, to earn a certificate II in hospitality through workplace training specialists Tubal.

"The trainees will learn customer service skills and build their food knowledge, as well as learn restaurant set-up and pat-down," Ms Phillipson said.

"They will work for a minimum of eight hours a week, but may be able to work further shifts during the school holidays."

Ms Phillipson said she had worked in hospitality since she was 14 and looked forward to welcoming the students.

Staff member Jess van Blommestein said she had enjoyed a positive experience completing a traineeship at the award-winning restaurant.

An information session for teachers, parents and students will be held on June 8, with the successful applicants starting work in July.

Applicants are invited to bring along their resumes on the night or pop in between 10am and 11.30am or 3pm and 4pm, Tuesday to Sunday.
