Police have arrested a Gold Coast woman over a wild police chase which took place on Sunday.

Sarah Jane Boyd, 28, has been on the run since she evaded police who pursued her and her believed boyfriend Joe Gillard, 19, in a police chase on Sunday.

She was also allegedly involved in a violent robbery on Sunday morning.

Officers spotted Boyd, driving a dark blue Holden Commodore at Southport last night, triggering another pursuit, but she got away.

However Boyd's luck ran out this morning when she was arrested by police at a Blyth Steet address at Arundel around 9.35am.

She was taken into police custody without incident and is assisting police with a number of investigations.

Gillard who was arrested earlier in the week, has been charged with attacking taxi driver Anthony Labbalestier with an axe on Sunday. He has been denied bail and will reappear in court on Wednesday.

Police fired shots and deployed road spikes during the chase, which involved Gillard and Boyd on Sunday. The couple who rode in an allegedly stolen 4WD swerved across lanes and rammed patrol cars and officers.

Police allege the couple threw hammers and a tomahawk out the windows in an attempt to deter the pursuers

It was only when the car was damaged by stingers that the operation came to a dramatic end.

The pair then fled from the scene on foot and Gillard was later arrested.

Taxi driver Anthony Labbalestier has since described the terrifying attack.

"He had a hack at me with the front end of the axe, and after a few seconds, I thought, ‘I've got to survive here’,” he told 7News.

Luckily he escaped the traumatic incident with just six stitches.

Police investigations are continuing.
