Natalie Portman to portray Jackie Kennedy

Actress Natalie Portman has reteamed with her Black Swan director to play former US First Lady Jackie Kennedy.

Darren Aronofsky’s new movie Jackie will centre on the four days following the assassination of US President John F Kennedy in 1963.

It will be produced by Aronofsky, while acclaimed filmmaker Pablo Larrain will direct.

The movie will go into production at the end of the year, according to Variety.com.

The casting news from the 2015 Cannes Film Festival comes a day after reports surfaced suggesting Portman would be starring in a French movie opposite Johnny Depp’s teenage daughter Lily.

The busy actress is also in talks to portray another historical US figure - America’s first female Jewish Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in a new biopic.

Portman won’t have to go back too far to study other actresses who have played Jackie Kennedy on screen - Katie Holmes played the socialite and fashion icon in controversial 2011 TV mini-series The Kennedys.

She has also been portrayed by Jaclyn Smith, Joanne Whalley, Jill Hennessy and Francesca Annis.
