Men face court over drugs haul

Two men are facing a total of 15 drug charges after police seized more than 5kg of cannabis from properties in Northcliffe and Pemberton.

A Pemberton police search of a Northcliffe property on Friday, April 10, resulted in two further searches being carried out in Northcliffe and Pemberton and the seizure of 5.5kg of cannabis.

The accused men, aged 25 and 36 years, were charged with possession of cannabis with intent to sell or supply, possession of a prohibited drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Pemberton officer-in-charge Harry Arnott said the seizure was part of a South West police mandate to target all people involved in the use, supply and manufacture of illicit drugs, aimed at minimising associated criminal activity.

"Drug use and drug supply is intrinsically attributable to volume crime," he said.

" If we target the use, supply and manufacture of drugs then we'll reduce the other crimes in the process."

Sgt Arnott said officers were keen to apprehend people involved with illicit drugs but needed the help of the public.

He urged anyone with knowledge of drug use or supply to inform local police or CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000 and said informants' details always remained confidential.

A court date for the two accused men is to be set.
