Winter brings road safety message

Manjimup Precision Driver Training owner Doug Moyle urges all drivers to check tyre wear as the region heads into winter.

Winter is coming and a Manjimup driving instructor is urging road users to check their vehicles, including the wear on tyres.

Manjimup Precision Driver Training owner Doug Moyle said driver action and driver education was a big part of safe driving.

"I talk about tyres on a student's first lesson, from grooves and tyre pressure to their general condition," he said.

"This is a good time of year to remind people to make sure their car is roadworthy because the wet, slippery weather hasn't really set in yet."

Mr Moyle said most roads in the region had a clay base, which made them more slippery when wet.

"Winding roads can be dangerous when wet, so drive to the conditions," he said.

"If your wipers are on, make sure your lights are on too. It's always important to be visible, especially in winter conditions."

Mr Moyle also suggested that people check the conditions of their vehicle's brakes and whether the lights were working properly.

"Drive as if your life depends on it, which it can do," he said.

"Holidays should be enjoyed, not regretted, so there's no harm in your travels being a few extra minutes longer."
