It could be fourth time lucky for Mash Brewery Rockingham as they go head to head with eateries from across Perth for the coveted Western Australia's Best Steak Sandwich Award.

Venue manager Julie Kidd said the steak sandwich, which combines a 150g rump steak with bacon, cheddar cheese, made-on-site apple cider chutney, garlic butter and fresh rocket on toasted Turkish bread, was the most popular item on the menu.

Ms Kidd said Mash Rockingham had been nominated for the Australian Hotels Association accolade for the past three years, but had yet to take the title.

She said the team of chefs were confident and hoped to take part in a live cook-off at Crown Perth next month.

"The steak sandwich is by far our most popular dish; people come back again and again for it," Ms Kidd said.

Head chef Steven Brown said he ordered more than 250 Turkish breads a week and his grill was constantly filled with sizzling steak.

He said he once served up the dish, which is accompanied by chips and aioli, to a table of 25.

"Thursday nights are always really busy and the sandwich is popular with all age groups," he said.

"We get a lot of guys coming in for a steak sandwich and a pint before they head off into the shops.

"It would be great to win the award."

Mr Brown and his team will go up against chefs from Last Drop Tavern in Warnbro, as well as more than 50 others from across the Metropolitan area.

Australian Hotels Association WA chief executive Bradley Woods said AHA wanted to celebrate the steak sandwich as an iconic taste of WA.
