Progress in serial killer probe: report

Police are closer to solving the baffling Claremont serial killings, according to a local newspaper report.

According to Post Newspapers, detectives are exploring “promising leads” in relation to the killings of Sarah Spiers, Jane Rimmer and Ciara Glennon.

It was reported that new forensic technology has helped detectives narrow their focus to other, possibly related non-fatal crimes and new forensic evidence.

The women disappeared on three separate nights in the mid 1990s after visiting Claremont nightspots.

Two of the women were found murdered.

A police spokeswoman said WA Police remained committed to resolving the crimes and have always remained positive the crimes will be solved.

“The advent of new technology, investigative techniques and the potential for new evidence all enhance that possibility,” she said.

“Resolving all such matters for victims’ families is a priority for WA Police.”
