A 32-year-old South Hedland man who died after a crash on Wilson Street has been remembered for his love of life, his bright smile and his humour.

Cameron William McAuliffe died in a Perth hospital after the Nissan Patrol he was driving collided with a Kenworth Prime Mover about 10.30am last Thursday.

Mr McAuliffe's workmates from the Norwest Crane Hire team remembered a man who lived life to the full.

"Cam McAuliffe, to the people who knew him well, was a man with a generous heart and a love for life and living it to the fullest," the team said.

"Cam was passionate about travelling and meeting people from different walks of life.

"He was an outdoors man who loved fishing, surfing, camping, reading, cooking up a storm, playing guitar, photography and sport.

"His favourite pastime though was hanging out with his mates, drinking beers.

"As long as it wasn't 'hairdressers piss' as he called it.

"What Cam loved more than any of these things, though, was his family.

"Cam was very close to his little brother, Glenn, who is also a crane operator and has spent time in the Pilbara.

"Cam was looking forward to his brother Glenn returning to Port Hedland after an extended time away travelling.

"Cam had an infectious personality. He was fun to be around and he never took anything for granted.

"We will be thankful every day for having met such a legend of a bloke and we will forever honour his memory.

"Rest in Peace Big Fella. We will set a line for you the next time we are out fishing, forever chasing your catch of the day. Rest easy knowing you were loved by so many."

Mr McAuliffe's Karratha friends recalled a man who made an impression on those around him.

"Cam truly was an amazing guy," a statement read.

"He had such an infectious smile, you could see the laughter in his eyes.

"A loyal friend and confidant, always generous with his time and advice.

"He often made huge efforts for his mates, travelling long distances to share birthdays and weddings, making memories that will be forever treasured.

"Cam made a big impression on people - his generous nature and willingness to share his love of life put a little more light in the world.

"Cam was an adventurous soul and we were lucky enough to have shared some fun and some crazy times together. He will be deeply missed by all of his friends."

Port Hedland Police are investigating the incident, but it is believed the Nissan Patrol was travelling south along Wilson Street near Roche Road when it pulled over to the side of the road.

Police said the vehicle then started to conduct a u-turn when it was struck on the driver's side door by the prime mover which was also travelling south along Wilson Street.

The 35-year-old passenger of the four-wheel-drive was transferred to the Hedland Health Campus with non-life threatening injuries.

The man is in a stable condition at the health campus.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
