Garlett denies police chase

Dayle Garlett

Former AFL hot prospect Dayle Garlett has pleaded not guilty to stealing and driving charges after incidents at Beechboro and Greenough in November.

But in Geraldton Magistrate's Court yesterday, he admitted stealing petrol at Forrestfield, possessing amphetamine at Greenough and exceeding the speed limit by 45km/h or more in November.

Sentencing was delayed until after the other charges are decided.

Garlett pleaded not guilty to stealing a vehicle and driving recklessly at Caversham on November 13 and 14, failing to stop for police on November 17 at Greenough and two counts of dangerous driving to escape pursuit. He was remanded on bail to April 9 for a disclosure of prosecution evidence.

Garlett faced three unrelated charges of breaching a 12-month community supervision order imposed in Midland in September.

He admitted failing to report to Community Corrections three times.

Magistrate Donna Webb struck out the original 12-month order and reimposed it for another 12 months with a requirement that Garlett do 53 hours of unpaid community service work. She fined him $300 for the three breaches.
