Ahead of the Anzac centenary, the City of Rockingham RSL sub-branch is reaching out to the descendants of Rockingham World War I veterans to learn more about the region's role in the Great War.

President Mick Ryan said hanging proudly in the RSL hall was an honour roll listing the names of Rockingham-born men who fought in the Great War.

He hoped the families of the service personnel would make themselves known to the club and join in the centenary memorial service in April.

"We would like to formerly recognise the descendants at the service," Mr Ryan said.

"We feel if we don't do it, we wouldn't be paying the respect this roll of honour is due.

"We would love to hear from the families so we can invite them to attend the service where we will honour their ancestors."

Mr Ryan hoped families would be comfortable to share stories of their brave relatives, so the region could learn more about Rockingham's role in the war. Families can email the Rockingham RSL sub-branch at rslrock@westnet.com.au or call 9592 4222.
