Drop-ins, board-grabs, backflips, and air walks were on show at Rockingham Skate Park at the weekend as skaters and scooter riders competed for a spot in the Drug Aware Skate Series State finals.

Four Rockingham skaters and scooter riders - Tahj Thompson, Ethan McKenzie, Luke Quinn, and Ethan Hall - had the goods to make it through to the big round, to be held at Leederville YMCA's headquarters next month.

Perth YMCA Drug Aware Skate Series project co-ordinator Tanya Halliday said 36 scooter and skateboard riders travelled from across the metropolitan area to take part in the series' qualifying final at the Emma Street skate park on Saturday.

"The series is one of just a few in WA that gives young skaters and scooter riders the chance to show off their skills and get experience in a professionally run skating competition," she said.

"Healthway are proud sponsors of the series, promoting the Drug Aware message to raise awareness of the harms associated with illegal drug use."

Miss Halliday said it was great to see Rockingham riders turn up for the event, with a few of them winning their age groups.

In the scooter 11 and under round, Jack Smetana came in first, with Rockingham's Tahj Thompson runner-up.

David Lowery won the scooter 14 and under competition, with Rockingham rider Ethan McKenzie runner-up.

In the scooter 15 and over section, the winner was Wade France and runner-up Jiordan Giocoppo.

In the skate 11 and under, the winner was Christian Martinez and runner-up was Jordan Pigg.

Skater Ross Rogan-Green won the 14 and under competition and Ethan Donatti came runner-up, while Rockingham boys Luke Quinn and Ethan Hill claimed the 15 and over age group, coming first and second respectively.

The State final will be help on Saturday, March 21.
