Police call for safe, sensible behaviour at celebrations

Rockingham police are encouraging residents to enjoy Australia Day safely, with 35 police to be out in force on the foreshore on Monday.

Rockingham police acting Senior Sergeant Stephen Hope-Hume said the police understood Australia Day was a special event on the calendar for all Aussies and hoped celebrators would do the right thing.

"We encourage people to enjoy the day and the functions put on by the City of Rockingham at the foreshore," he said.

"We are reminding residents that behaviour will be monitored and the foreshore will be policed.

"People should certainly behave themselves and as long as they do so, there should little interaction with police."

Acting Sen. Sgt Hope-Hume said there would be more than 30 officers scouring the foreshore to ensure everyone had an enjoyable day and additional police keeping an eye on the sub-district.

He reminded residents who were venturing out to lock up and secure their properties and cars to protect their belongings from people who did not have the best intentions.
