Drage appeal fails

An appeal to increase the jail time for WA man Jake Drage, 23, convicted of causing a fatal motorbike crash in Indonesia has been rejected.

Drage was jailed in October over a motorcycle collision in West Java that killed a local woman. The Geraldton man, who was on a surfing holiday at the time, was sentenced to nine months’ jail for reckless driving causing death.

With the three months he had already spent in custody, he would be eligible for release in April next year.

The prosecution, which had argued for 18 months’ jail, appealed to the High Court for the sentence to be increased but Warungkiara jail governor Nana Herdiana announced yesterday the appeal had been rejected.
