Cyclist hurt in 'hit-run' crash

A man on a motorised push bike received serious injuries after an apparent hit-and-run in Orelia last night.

Paramedics were called to Hennessy Avenue, near Clarinda Avenue, at 8.47pm by a member of the public.

The 26-year-old Waikiki man was conscious when paramedics arrived and had received serious head injuries.

He had been wearing a helmet at the time he was struck.

The man was rushed to Fremantle Hospital under priority conditions and was this morning transferred to Royal Perth Hospital where his condition is still being assessed.

A police spokesman said it appeared to be a hit-and-run incident between the cyclist and a car.

Police say it appeared a driver of a vehicle had failed to give way from Clarinda Avenue before hitting the cycling.

Police want to speak to the female driver of a white vehicle which briefly stopped at the crash site in relation to the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
