Canberra's ACTEW to become Icon Water

ACT water and sewerage utility ACTEW will change its name to help address confusion about its brand.

From early next year, ACTEW will be known as Icon Water.

The name change is partly driven by the need to distinguish ACTEW Water from the energy provider ActewAGL.

ACTEW managing director John Knox said customers were often confusing ACTEW and ActewAGL.

He said the name ACTEW was also no longer strictly relevant to what the company represented.

"Importantly, this rebranding process has provided us the opportunity to refocus the organisation for the next 100 years, ensuring we are a relevant, focused and trusted water and sewerage utility for the region," he said.

"There are aren't too many Canberrans that would not agree that we provide some of the best quality water in Australia with satisfaction rates up at 95 per cent last year (according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics)."

The new name will be accompanied by new branding which will be rolled out across Canberra over the next few months.

ACTEW said the community would also be provided with further information on what the changes would mean for them.
