Good Samaritan assaulted by 'victim'

A woman who stopped to help a man lying on the footpath was grabbed from behind by another man and assaulted by the pair in Broome on Friday.

The 21-year-old woman was cycling along Herbert Street around 6.30pm when she stopped to help the man, said a spokeswoman for WA Police.

"As she went to his assistance she was grabbed from behind by a second man," the spokeswoman said.

"The woman struggled with the men before the men fled when a passing motorist drove along the street."

The woman received bruises and cuts during the altercation.

The men are described as being between 20 and 30 years of age, with dark skin and wearing dark clothing.

Police would like to speak to anyone who was near Herbert and Louise Streets around the time of the incident who may have seen the altercation or the two men before the incident.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
