Elderly couple allegedly threatened for car

An elderly couple had their house window smashed and were threatened in their Moora home before their car was stolen, police allege.

Midland Police have charged an 18-year-old man of Moora after he allegedly went to a house on King Street and smashed a window to gain entry to the house around 2am on Friday.

"He (allegedly) confronted the occupants of the address – an 79-year-old woman and her 84-year-old husband – and threatened them with a piece of wood for their car," a police spokeswoman said.

"He (allegedly) made further threats to the couple to show him how to operate the vehicle, before driving off."

"At around 9.30am on 6 September, the man was involved in a traffic crash at the intersection of Lloyd Street and Great Eastern Highway in Midland while driving the stolen Mazda sedan."

Police attended and arrested the man.

He has been charged with Aggravated Burglary and Commit, Aggravated Armed Robbery and Steal Motor Vehicle. He will appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on 7 September 2014.
