New York expects for pregnant Ange

Preparing a collection to showcase at New York Fashion Week is a stressful exercise for any label, let alone when you're seven months pregnant, as is the case for Perth designer Ange Lang.

"It's hard but this industry doesn't wait for anyone. So when an opportunity arises you just have to go for it," the eponymous designer told AAA Weekend.

"I'm a little bit crazy, I always bite off more than I can chew. I'm doing it now before the baby is born because I have more control over my time," she explained.

Participating in the Emerging International Designer Showcase organised by fashion producers House of Shakar, the sideshow will take place at the iconic High Line - a stunning public park built on the historic freight line that runs above Manhattan.

"House of Shakar approached me a few times and I kept saying no because I didn't want the extra stress. But they were very accommodating, knowing that I'm pregnant, so I eventually caved in," Lang revealed.

"I've had other invitations for New York Fashion Week but there are so many shows that go on, and you're such a small fish in a big pond, you really have to choose the right show and hope it gives you the exposure you need."

Though Lang won't be able to venture to New York for the showcase, a host of celebrities and fashion buyers will be in attendance, including Perth-raised actress Melissa George and Beyonce's stylist Ty Hunter.

"Melissa George I met when I was in New York previously. She's just so lovely and it will be great for her to be there to support the Australian labels," Lang enthused.

"I'm also very excited about Beyonce's stylist coming. I don't know if my stuff is right for Beyonce but it would be amazing if they picked a few things and decided to dress her in it."
