Shoppers are descending on global fashion giant Zara, which opens its doors of its first West Australian store today.

A small but eager crowd gathered outside the Garden City store this morning ahead of the 9am opening, with some keen shoppers arriving at 6am.

The eagerly awaited opening of the fast-fashion brand highlights Perth fashionistas' love affair with stores such as Zara, Topshop and H&M, which are hugely popular shopping destinations overseas.

Zara Garden City, which is spread out over 1338sqm and includes 19 fitting rooms, will welcome shoppers with its spring/summer collections for women, men and children.

This is the 10th Australian store for Zara which will open a second Perth store in October - on Murray Street in the CBD.

Zara opened its first store in the coastal town of A Coruna in north-west Spain in 1975.

It has more than 2000 stores in 88 countries.

Zara is owned by the Inditex Group, which is one of the biggest fashion retailers in the world.
